When I turned 30 in March, I decided that it was time for a ~glow-up~. I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for almost 3 years now and I put so much of myself into being a mom, that I feel like it’s time for me to really make myself more of a priority. I’ve been good about working out, doing my daily skincare, and eating mostly healthy, but I want to take it to the next level and really aim to be the best version of myself.
I made a YouTube video outlining my plan here:
These are all the areas I have been working on/plan to work on to glow-up, but I might add on more as I go through this journey! And if you have ideas, I’m open to those too!
Posture
Posture is such an underrated thing to fix that can significantly change how you look and carry yourself (literally). Helen Leland (she’s on TikTok and Instagram!) has some many good posture reminders and stretches/exercises to help improve posture. I’m also adding reminders on my phone to remind me to check my posture throughout the day.
Mental health
I know, I know, if you’re looking for physical things to do, this can feel like an annoying one to mention, but it does make a difference! When you are stressed on not in a good mental space, youre going to be tense, your metabolism will be different, you can be more prone to illness, so YEAH working on your mental health WILL reflect out in more ways than one.
I’m working on this in a few ways.
- I’ve been going back to therapy. It’s scary to make that first appointment, but its really been helping!
- I’ve been reading more nonfiction. I like psychology and sociology topics to better understand myself and others, but I think reading any type of nonfiction is beneficial because you are engaging your brain instead of scrolling on your phone.
- Learning something new. Kind of goes along with the previous point, but I think when you are engaging your brain and learning something new, it makes you more confident and interesting which reflects outwards as well! I’m practicing my Spanish more often to meet this point.
- Practicing gratitude and reading Bible more. I’ve been trying to wake up early more often (daily isn’t happening while we have our newborn foster daughter!) and I use that time to do my morning routine and also read my Bible. I’m also consciously throughout the day trying to practice gratitude for all of the things that I have. It significantly will shift your mindset!
Lash serum
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you already know about my quest to find the best prostaglandin free lash serum to hopefully transform my naturally stubby lashes. I’ve written about two so far, the Ordinary lash serum and the Terez & Honor lash serum. I’m currently on month 2 of trying out another one, and it so far seems promising. Once I use it for 3 months, I will make a YouTube video and post about all 3 and share it with y’all!
Oral health/ whiter teeth
Now I actually think my teeth are relatively white, but my teeth have been whiter and I would love to get them to a prettier white than they currently are! I’m trying to go as gentle as possible after I had a rough in-office whitening teeth experience years ago!
Focusing on abs/finding exercise that I look forward to
I’m really trying to find a workout split and routine that gives me better results than what I’m currently seeing. I’m trying to incorporate regular abs or pilates with strength training and also trying to get more steps into my routine.
Learning how to do my makeup for 30 year old skin
I kind of feel like I never really truly learned how to do my makeup and now as my skin is starting to get fine lines (specifically around my eyes), makeup is sitting on my skin much more differently.
I really want to learn to do a really quick daily makeup routine, a good makeup look for things like girls night or date night, and learn to do a FULL BEAT for special occassions!
Hair
Getting great hair was my New Year’s resolution this year. I’m making strides so far, but have yet to perfect my routine! I’ve been following a lot of Abbey Yung’s recommendations. So far, the things that have made the biggest difference are hair oiling, glycolic acid gloss, and glycolic acid as a pre-shampoo treatment. Once I feel like my hair is in a really good place, will share more though!
Finding my style and building my dream wardrobe
I talked about this a little bit more in this post, but I’m making a conscious effort to buy things that fit my personal style instead of micro-trends. I did a massive closet clean out which was my jump-start, and I use Pinterest to get outfit ideas!
Gua sha
At the beginning of the year, I decided that I was going to start using my gua sha more reguraly, but in the last month or two, I’ve recently started doing it in the morning as part of my morning face wash and it is a daily part of my routine now! Now, even if you don’t believe it will do anything for wrinkles, it definitely does something with puffiness for my face and helping wake my body up in the morning, which is why I love doing it when I wake up.
Here is a great tutorial to follow!:
Bodycare
For as much time and thought as I put into my FACE skincare, the rest of my body does not get that time of thought! I am currently trying out different body washes, lotions, and body oils (the last one is pretty new to my routine) to make sure the rest of my body is glowing!
Skincare
My skincare routine is something I have been working on for years now, and while I do think my routine in this post below is a FANTASTIC place to start (MVPs being: cleanser, vitamin C, retinol, eye cream, and moisturizer), I like to add on to target some other skin needs that I have. I’m still trying to find the BEST products for each thing, so that’s that I’m researching and trying to perfect!
I’m additionally going to be using my red light panel more often for my skin and also looking into my med-spa like treatments for my face (think lasers or microneedling!)
