Asheville Glamping Weekend

Travel

It’s so hard to believe that G and I have been married for two years now. How the time flies! We went to Asheville for our 1st anniversary and we went back again this year because it is such an easy trip from Charlotte and we always feel so refreshed after our time there.

G couldn’t get time off of work early (because tax season) so we left when he got off work on Friday and were home by late afternoon on Sunday. We decided to change up our accommodations during this trip and try out glamping.

There are a couple of tree houses in the Asheville area that people can rent out on AirBNB or similar sites, but they tend to book CRAZY fast. We kind of planned this trip last minute, so I Googled “glamping in Asheville” and somehow stumbled upon a glamping experience that was in a cabin/tent set-up. It was through a website called Glamping Hub, which I was slightly nervous to book through since I had never heard of it. However, this specific property had great reviews so we did it.

And I’m so glad we did! It exceeded all of our expectations and our host, Brookes, was phenomenal. She brought us breakfast on Saturday morning that blew our minds (blueberry scones with lemon glaze, maple glazed bacon, and fresh strawberries). Plus she has three adorable dogs that helped fill the void of not having our own fur baby present 😉

After breakfast we set out to do a little hike up Chimney Rock. It is near Lake Lure, which was only a 45 minute drive from our glamping site. The views are beautiful and it is a pretty easy hike with lots of trail options depending on your fitness level.

The Hickory Nut Falls Trail has a waterfall at the end (and it’s a super easy walk!) so I highly recommend checking that one out.

We went to lunch and shopped around a bit in the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area and then headed back to our camp site for a quick nap before dinner.

We stopped in at the Wicked Weed brew-house, which is one of our faves, for a pre-dinner drink. (Only including this picture because I look so insanely weird)

We had reservations at a restaurant called Chestnut (which I accidentally referred to as Hazelnut to a cashier at a boutique who asked where we were going to dinner lol). We got the truffle fries with truffle aioli to start because I can never say no to truffle fries. It’s a pretty good life rule to never say “no” to truffle fries and I encourage most people to adopt it.

I got the Crow’s Own Shrimp n’ Grits (which I can also never say “no” to). It featured Carolina coast shrimp, SC Cheddar Grits, chewy diced Bacon, Cherry Tomatoes, baby Spinach, Serrano Peppers, and a Peppercorn Cream Sauce. I’m a bit of a connoisseur with shrimp and grits and Hazelnut can serve up some damn good shrimp and grits.

G got the Korean BBQ ribs which he let me try and were fall off the bone tender.

We split the chocolate torte with mint matcha ice cream to finish things off and it was delicious as well.

Sunday was a bit of a rainy day so we got to sleep in– and nothing beats the sound of rain on a tent! Brookes brought us another amazing breakfast. This time ciabatta bread with pulled pork, a cream sauce, and a poached egg. I need her to teach me her breakfast skills.

When the rain finally broke and we checked out with Brookes after chatting with her for like an hour and a half, we went to get lunch at The White Duck Taco Shop. It is down the street from Hazelnut, and we had passed by it the night prior. When we saw it the previous night, the line was way out the door. So we determined that it had to be good.

I got the carnitas taco and the jerk chicken taco. The jerk chicken was for sure my fave! Their chips and queso are pretty on point too.

After walking around to a few art galleries and boutiques, we finally grabbed a cup of coffee at the PennyCup Coffee Co. Their hazelnut latte is banging and their pour over grounds are incredible as well.

All in all, it was such a great trip! We love Asheville and already cannot wait for our next trip!
