About a month ago, Garrett, Theo, and I visited Jeter Mountain Farm in Hendersonville, NC. Jeter Mountain Farm is only about 1 hour from Asheville and 2 hours from Charlotte, NC. Since we are from Charlotte, Jeter Mountain makes the perfect apple orchard day trip!
This was not our first trip to Jeter Mountain Farm. We went a couple of years ago before we had Theo and we had the best time. Last year, we had a little tiny newborn and were not brave enough to venture two hours away just to pick apples 😉
But this year, with a super active toddler, we figured it would be a great day trip from Charlotte to do as a family. There is so much to do here beyond picking apples. There is a huge playground for slightly bigger kids (probably best suited for ages 3+). There is also a market to buy fresh fruits, veggies, candles, pickles, jams, and salsas. Often times, there is live music playing and there is even a tap room for hard cider for adults.
Food at Jeter Mountain Farm
Now while you might think apple picking here would be the star of the show at this apple orchard, you have it ALL WRONG. The real reason we returned here was because of their apple cider doughnuts (only half kidding). We easily downed a half-dozen, but now we have a toddler who kept trying to steal ours too!
But they have more food offerings than just doughnuts at Jeter Mountain. They have a BBQ food truck all the time if you need something with more sustenance. The pulled pork is pretty good– Theo enjoyed it too!
They also have a coffee shop where I got this apple butter latte. It was delicious!
Apple U-Pick
When we visited, Gala apples were ready to pick, but the varieties available to pick vary week per week. You can check Jeter Mountain Farms calendar to see what upcoming varieties will be available to pick.
The cost of a bushel of u-pick apples includes a tractor ride to the apple trees for the family (I think up to 5 people?). Theo loved the tractor ride– he was mesmerized the whole ride.
This is such a great day trip from Charlotte if you’re looking for some fall vibes and apple picking– whether you have children or not. The apples are delicious too– which is the most important part!
If you plan on returning in future years, make sure to save your apple basket. If you do and bring it back, you get some money off the cost of u-pick!
