24 Hours (roughly) in Charleston

Travel

OK, actually I’m pretty much on point with saying that we spent almost EXACTLY 24 hours in Charleston this past weekend. G and I both had work off for MLK day this year so we decided to get out of town! It was a last minute decision to do so, but we ended up only spending 24 hours because we had plans already for Saturday night.

Brunch #1: Butcher & Bee

We woke up on Sunday and headed for Charleston (it’s only about 3 hours away from Charlotte!) and got there about noon. We immediately went to brunch when we arrived in town and stopped at Butcher & Bee.

It’s a SUPER cute place, and they had a fun brunch menu. We were starving and both got burger and fries (because we are boring) and honestly ate in record time haha

Exploring town:

After that we walked around A LOT. My Apple Watch said that we had walked 7 miles by 5 pm!! My legs are still feeling it to be honest haha

We have been to Charleston many times before, so we mostly were just revisiting our favorite places. We love the live oaks around the battery so we walked around there for quite some time

We also are obsessed with the homes in Charleston, and we love just admiring them. And obviously we took a stroll down Rainbow Row so I could get some photos (lol)

Recognize the top I’m wearing? I wore it in the fall for my pumpkin patch outfit. Unfortunately, it is sold out on J. Crew’s website, but I saw it in the store last week, so maybe check out your local store! I love wearing white and or something colorful in Charleston. It’s such classic southern town and it makes me want to wear classic styles and lighter colors!

Where we stayed:

Once my feet finally gave up from all the walking, we checked into our hotel: The Francis Marion.

Because we planned this trip last minute, I was not sure what to expect as far as pricing of hotels. The Francis Marion is a 4-star hotel and famous for how historic it is in Charleston. But considering it is January, we booked one night for $130! In the summer (peak season), I think it can get upwards of $400/night, but it was a really lovely hotel!

It is in the heart of downtown Charleston and close to a lot of great boutiques and shops on King’s street. It is a bit of a walk to the water/pier (~20 minutes), but Charleston is so lovely and walkable, that G and I don’t mind!

Drinks @ The Gin Joint

Once I was done nursing my feet back to health (I honestly made G stop and help me buy new shoes because the ones I packed are NOT walking shoes- haha!), we went for drinks at the The Gin Joint. We had passed by last time we were in CHS and thought it looked cool and vowed to return next time.

It is really small, but very unique and quaint. And the drinks are out of this world. Get the “Lady-killer”. You won’t regret it!

Dinner @ Fleet Landing

Because it was restaurant week in Charleston, we made reservations to Fleet Landing which is on the water in downtown. It did not disappoint and this place is popular for a reason! When it is restaurant week in Charleston, participating restaurants will have 3+ courses offered for $30-35. Fleet Landing is known for their shrimp and grits, which is one of my all-time favorite things. For my three courses I got, the crab dip, shrimp & grits, and key lime pie. Talk about a southern meal, right?

Everything was great, although, I wish I had chose the stuffed hush puppy like G had. He let me try his and it was super tasty!

Because we are old-souls, we went back to our hotel and went to bed pretty much right after dinner (but to be fair, we had a late dinner!)

Brunch #2: Poogan’s Porch

This was one of my favorite places we went to on this trip to Charleston! It was recommended to me by a fellow blogger, and I’m so glad we took her advice! It is in an old Charleston style home, and has some incredible stuff on their menu. I hope to come back and try their dinner next time. I got the chicken and waffles, which I loved. It came with a Texas Pete (which is a brand of hot sauce) butter which gave the dish the perfect amount of kick! Sometimes chicken and waffles can be kind of boring just having the sweet and savory, but the heat added some extra dimension.

G got the pot roast omelette and his was super good as well. It had braised short rib and duck fat potatoes inside (*drooling*). Need I say more?

Following brunch, we just walked around to some art galleries (there are SO many) before heading home.

It was a quick trip, but sometimes all you need is 24 hours out of town to come back feeling refreshed!

What is your favorite place/activity in Charleston?

Note: I did end up donating the formula elsewhere— I didn’t want to leave it outside because extreme temperatures can mess with the integrity of formula!

I took my toddler to the grocery store so we could pick out some shelf stable foods that are also good sources of protein. We made a couple of shelf stable birthday cake kits (everything included to make a cake!) and also donated a bunch of diapers that we no longer had use for!
