The 4 Books I Read Last Month (September 2024)

I’m a little delayed getting the monthly book round up out! I only read 4 books in September, but October should be better since we are half-way though and I’ve already read 4 books this month! As always, if you read something amazing, share it in the comments! I’m always looking for something new. And feel free to follow me on Instagram where I share more real-time reviews 🙂

No Exit by Taylor Adams

4.75/5 Stars

No Exit is a thriller following college student, Darby Thorne, when she gets caught in a fierce blizzard in the mountains of Colorado. She is forced to wait things out at a rest stop with 4 strangers. As she is searching for a cell signal, she discovers a young girl trapped in a dog crate in the van parked next to her car. They are all trapped with no phone service and a kidnapper, but Darby doesn’t know who.

This book was SO good and totally will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is pretty gory and violent so I did struggle with that, but I otherwise flew through this book!

The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt

4/5 stars

I finished The Anxious Generation via audiobook and really enjoyed it. It validated a lot of previous thoughts I had regarding kids and screen time, mental health, independence, and play. Definitely inspired me to keep Theo from having a smart phone and any social media until he’s in high school.

I didn’t agree with everything the author said regarding independence though. Especially because his suggestions are really only possible if you live in an urban environment. For a lot of people in suburbs, his suggestions aren’t particularly helpful.

Powerless by Lauren Roberts

4.5/5 stars

This one is a mix of Hunger Games + a hint of fantasy + more tension romance. It did feel like a copy/paste of Hunger Games at times, but that didn’t stop me from really enjoying it! I’m on my library’s hold list for book 2 and I cannot wait because it left on such a cliff hanger!

The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout

2/5 stars

Unfortunately I think The War of Two Queens is going to be the last book in the Blood and Ash series that I read. It was boring and a lot of rambling. The first book was fine, and the series has really just been declining since then for me.
