These rugs are very popular right now and there are constant ads for them, so I wanted to post an honest Ruggable review if you’re thinking about buying one yourself. We have a dog, lots of clay around our home, and just generally clumsy people, so the ruggable was intriguing!
We have been in our new house since May, and we had spent about 6 months of that time rug-less in our living room. Mostly because it didn’t seem as high up on the priority list as other big items for our house, but also because we just couldn’t find one we liked. My mom is a bit of collector of antique, Persian rugs, and so I naturally tend to like the look/pattern of them; however, I tend to gravitate towards less of the bright, rust/red/orange rugs, and more of the earth tones, neutrals, and whites.
The challenge in this is finding a rug like this that isn’t $600+. I had looked on Etsy, eBay, you name it, and I could not find a reasonably priced rug that I liked. There were a few that I found on Amazon that were under $150 for an 8×10, but the reviews were sometimes mixed, and I just wasn’t 100% in love with them.
Here’s where my dilemma arose: G and I have a dog who loves to run around our backyard that is full of red clay, we drink a lot of coffee in our living room (that often gets knocked over), and I like to enjoy a good glass of red wine (and I’m also incredibly clumsy). I had a gut feeling that if we bought the vintage rug of our dreams, our lifestyle would find a way to immediately destroy it. Not to mention that getting Persian rugs professionally cleaned costs quite a bit.
It felt like the alternative would be to buy an “inexpensive” rug and using our SpotBot Pet vacuum cleaner (amazing purchase BTW) whenever we had a mishap. But spot cleaning only goes so far, and for being a high traffic area, it would probably need to be deep cleaned often or just completely replaced every couple years. Which still did not feel like the most cost effective option.
THEN, because my phone was probably tracking my extensive search history for rugs, the Instagram ads began.
I was pretty much daily getting Instagram ads for a company called Ruggable, who marketed themselves as creating a ~*~revolutionary~*~ washable rug. The rugs they always advertised seemed to be in the color scheme I was craving, and in a similar pattern to what I wanted.
I read a lot of reviews and toiled for over a month about which rug I wanted, until I finally settled on the Sima Sage rug in an 8 x 10. An 8 x 10 will set you back about $399, but keep your eye out for coupon codes because I got a 20% off coupon before I bought, which definitely helped! Runners run about $130-190 depending on the length which isn’t HORRIBLE, especially if you get a coupon code. While we were definitely putting out a bit more than some of the cheap options we found on Amazon, I kept reminding myself that this was more of an investment since it was washable and would not be absolutely destroyed if I spilled my wine on it 😉
I could not be happier with the way this rug looks. It doesn’t have much rise/pile to it (which is perfect), but it is still very comfortable underneath the feet. It obviously is not a handwoven vintage rug, but despite it being printed on, it doesn’t look cheap or anything. The colors and pattern are beautiful and I think it ties our living room together.
When the rug finally arrived at our house, I was actually at work for the night, so Garrett did the initial set-up. He claimed it was super simple. I later learned that was an exaggeration/lie— but more on that later.
The rug comes in two parts. Essentially a non-stick pad with Velcro on top and then the rug.
Fortunately/Unfortunately, we got to test this part out twice within the first 2 weeks of owning our rug. After we had the rug for a week, our dog randomly got sick with diarrhea and lucky for us, instead of going our waterproof vinyl floors, she decided to focus her attention on our rug! It made us instantly thankful that we had chosen a Ruggable rug and that it was washable… but then concurrently we became anxious about it actually working! We picked as much solid debris off of the rug as we could. I then threw 3 Tide pods and a scoop of Oxi Clean into the washer. We used the heavy setting, set it on tap cold, and let it fill up for like 5 minutes before we threw in the rug. We have an old school washer and dryer, and not a front loader, so I was honestly so worried that our rug might not fit with the spinner piece in the middle. But it fit just fine! And all of the stains came right out.
We threw it in the dryer on low-heat with some wool balls to help it dry more effectively, and to be honest, we still had to run it through two dry cycles for it to get totally dry.
Assembly is my biggest gripe with the product so far, as I think it is a lot harder to assemble than they want to make it seem. I can see it being VERY easy if you have a smaller rug or a runner, but the 8×10 is a little trickier. There is not a huge amount of rug that extends past the border of the pad underneath, and this is for good reason, so that it doesn’t get tripped on. But this makes assembling difficult. You have to line it up just right, and even when you think you’ve accomplished that, you still will probably have to start over and retry a couple more times. When you have the larger rug and you’re attempting to assemble it, it is definitely easier with a partner. What we found was easiest was standing at corners diagonal of one another and lining up our respective edges before unfolding the rest of the rug and smoothing out the wrinkles. There’s probably an easier way though, so if you know the secret LET ME KNOW!
So after having the rug for a month, would I do it all over again? Absolutely. It washes like a dream, and despite the tedious assembly process, it’s better than having to pay to have your rug professionally cleaned or having to buy to replace your rug altogether.
Literally within 24 hours of us having to wash the rug after our dog’s accident, we had to wash it again because our friend’s dog threw up on it 😂 Was it so annoying going through the whole process again? Kind of, but boy were we relieved that we decided to get a washable rug! It just makes the most sense for our lifestyle. Plus, can you imagine how handy that will be when we have kids one day?!

I do still love it! I’m VERY clumsy, so this rug has paid for itself at this point. I haven’t had any issues with the corners or edges. It is a pain in the butt when you have to line the top layer up with the bottom part though
