Hosting Our Halloween Party

Happy Halloween, friends!

We had our Halloween party this past weekend since Halloween falls on a Thursday this year. But it felt fitting to share how we threw our Halloween party since it is Halloween today! This was the first real party we have hosted in our new house, so we were so excited.

First things first:

Our Costumes

Garrett and I have never laughed so hard over our costumes! If you can’t immediately find the resemblance, Garrett is the Swedish chef and I am the chicken from the Muppets.

Every time Garrett is cooking, he does the absolute worst impersonation of the Swedish chef, and it’s become a joke among our friends. So it felt absolutely natural that this was his costume this year.

If you are trying to be a Swedish chef yourself, we bought everything from Amazon!

To recreate our costumes: chef hat/apron, eyebrows/mustache, bow tie | my costume was just a chicken one piece pajama set haha

Food

We had everyone over at 7:30 pm since we were having lots of snacks (that I made WAY too much of!).

The meatballs (aka roasted zombie eyeballs) were your basic crock-pot appetizer meatballs. They are always a hit! And if you’ve never made these before and are totally freaked out by the grape jelly– just trust me. You’ve probably had them before with grape jelly in them and you didn’t even know it!

I highly recommend using Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce for these. Something about that sauce just makes it the absolute best for these meatballs.

The spooky sausage cheese dip was your basic Velveeta and Ro-Tel dip in the crock-pot.

Into the crock-pot I added 1 (32 oz) container of Velveeta, cut it into 1 in cubes, 2 (10 oz) cans of fire roasted Ro-Tel tomatoes and chilies, and 1 lb of mild Italian sausage, browned and crumbled. I cooked it on high for 2 hours and then switched it to low for 2 more and then left it on warm during the party.

Along with all this we also had tortilla chips (for the dip), hummus and crackers, and a veggie tray. It was wayy too much food!

The harvest punch was a 100% win and I was really nervous that it wouldn’t turn out like I was hoping. But having a punch in a big container along with beer, wine, and our bar open for people to make whatever, turned out to be a hit.

The original recipe is from Delish but I did have to alter it a little bit (aka I added more vodka) haha

Here is my recipe!:

1/2 gal. apple cider
1 bottle prosecco
3 cups vodka
1 liter bottle ginger ale
3 apples, sliced
2 oranges, sliced into triangles
8 cinnamon sticks
  1. As prep earlier that day, I cut up the apples and oranges and put them into the drink dispenser along with the apple cider, vodka, and cinnamon sticks.
  2. Prior to the party starting, I added the prosecco and ginger ale (so that they didn’t lose the fizz/carbonation)

I also made jello-shots for our party, which were a lot of fun, and SUPER tasty!

I made this recipe but used fresh apple cider instead of apple juice.

The only thing I remembered to take a picture of was our candy board! I was attempting to mimic a charcuterie board by adding in a bunch of different candies. I got the candy from a bunch of different places: Trader Joe’s, World Market, and my local grocery store!

Also look at these adorable napkins I found at World Market for our party! I found some similar ones on Amazon.

It ended up being a really fun night! Everyone dressed up, we hung out, played games, and drank lots of Harvest Punch 🙂

Music

Last but not least: this was our Halloween playlist that I made. You can also listen to it on Spotify!

I hope you all have a happy and safe Halloween!
