Favorite Things: Vol. V

Favorite Things· Life· Style

What. A. Week.

Kind of more like two weeks, but ya know.

Been taking classes and studying like mad to get my CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse), which is basically just a few extra fancy letters to add to the end of my name. That, plus working a lot of back-to-back shifts has my body feeling a little out of whack!

Of course my body also could be feeling out of whack from caffeine withdrawals :/

A couple of months ago, I did a nutrition screen from a company called Habit. It analyzes your DNA and blood to personalize a nutrition plan for you that fits with your genes and your body’s ability to use fats, carbs, and protein.

My results told me A LOT of things, but one of them was that I have a gene that makes me sensitive to caffeine. When I initially started looking into this test, I knew that they would be testing me for that gene, and I absolutely DREADED knowing the result. If you know anything about me, you would know that I have an incredibly strong love for coffee. However, as I’ve been doing some research, people with my same gene have increased likelihood of heart disease when they drink that cup of Joe *muffled sobs*

Coffee is something that I really don’t want to give up, so I’ll probably switch to half-caf coffee, but for the past week or two, I’ve only had tea in the morning. One of my favorite teas I’ve been trying is this Tumeric Slim Chai Tea. It’s got a slight sweetness to it, and its got a little bit of caffeine so that I can last through a 12+ hour shift, but not feel jittery (if that’s a problem for you). You can get it on Amazon for like $5 a box, but I actually got mine at HomeGoods (lol) where they sell it for like $3 a box (!!!)

In addition to caffeine withdrawals, my work week might just feel really tough after getting back from my birthday vacay in Mexico.

Going from 80 and sunny Mexico to 30 degrees in Charlotte was a harsh snap back to reality haha so I think that made going back to work a bit harder :/

While I was there, I debuted this adorable jumpsuit from Vestique! It’s $66 and so dang cute! You can buy it here. I think it looks so cute with a pair of Birkenstocks or a similar style shoe. I personally paired them with some old shoes from Aldo. It fits true to size, and I’m wearing a small for reference.

Now that I’ve got a tiny “base tan” from Mexico, I feel like I need to maintain it despite the chilly weather here in the U.S.A. My best friend has raved about St. Tropez tanner for YEARS, but being weary of self-tanner, I’ve never actually tried it. I was ordering something from Ulta last week, and saw the advertisement for St. Tropez products and had a “why-not” impulse buy.

I bought the Pre-Shower Tanner, and I’ve really been liking it so far. It’s a very gradual tan, which in my experience, really helps with preventing streaks and orange-ness. Plus, I’ve been using it on my face and have had no issues with it breaking me out! That alone wins it major points 🙂

What are you loving this week?? Share below! Also, HAPPY SPRING! 🙂

Honest trial of the @kristinesshair gloss in the s Honest trial of the @kristinesshair gloss in the shade Bittersweet! I actually filmed this at the beginning of October and now I can say it has faded really nicely. This hair gloss gave my hair so much shine and toned it just a bit darker and cooler. Note: I did end up donating the formula elsewhere— I didn’t want to leave it outside because extreme temperatures can mess with the integrity of formula!

I took my toddler to the grocery store so we could pick out some shelf stable foods that are also good sources of protein. We made a couple of shelf stable birthday cake kits (everything included to make a cake!) and also donated a bunch of diapers that we no longer had use for!
I really want to start doing this more often, because it caused my son to ask a lot of good questions and we were able to have a good talk about helping others ❤️
