Crate and Barrel Lounge Petite Sectional Review

Y’all we FINALLY have the sectional of our dreams in our living room! We have been anxiously awaiting our Lounge Petite Sectional to be delivered from Crate and Barrel for almost 6 months now, and it is meant for exactly what it claims it is: lounging.

Since we the moment that we bought into our house in mid-2019, we knew that we wanted a big comfy sectional in our living room. Because we had just spent so much of our savings on our house, we decided to buy some cheap couches from IKEA to fill the space until we could save up for the sectional of our dreams.

However, it took us just about as long to just find a sectional that we thought would be perfect for the space. G and I are incredibly indecisive about furniture and large purchases. We tend to go back and forth about things for months until we find something that meets our laundry list of desires. We love Crate and Barrel and really fell in love with the Lounge sectional sofa but after a lot of deliberation, we thought it might be better for a game room or more casual room because of how deep the couch is.

In one of our many visits to Crate and Barrel, one day the associate mentioned that you can order the “petite” version of the beloved Lounge Couch which is slightly shorter with a slightly shallower seat depth. They don’t have a petite version on display in stores so we couldn’t see it in person before we bought it, but knew we loved how comfy the original Lounge Sectional is, so we went for it! We were sold and ordered it in December 2020. After about a roughly 6 month wait, we finally received our new sectional from Crate and Barrel in May! Now that we have had it for a couple of months, I wanted to give a review.

Let’s talk about the differences between the Lounge Sectional versus the Lounge Petite Sectional

The particular sofa we have is the Lounge Petite 3 piece sectional. Both the normal lounge and the petite one are the same height, the differences lie in the depth and the length. The length is slightly different between the two. The Lounge 3 piece sectional is 125 inches for each arm of the L shape, while the Lounge Petite is slightly shorter at 120 inches for each arm of the L-shape.

The biggest difference (and reason why we got the petite sectional couch) is because the seat is not as deep. The Lounge 3 piece sectional has a seat depth of 29 inches, while the Lounge Petite has a seat depth of 24 inches. This might not seem like a lot, but when we sat in the original Lounge at the stores, the seats are so deep that no ones feel could touch the ground if their backs were up against the back cushion (unless you are LeBron James).

Color and material that we went with

We chose the taft cement color that I absolutely love. The material is a woven like fabric which adds some texture to the room.

The material claims to be highly durable (which it seems to be so far with our dog constantly jumping on it) and stain resistant. I can’t speak much to stains because we have made ourselves stop eating dinner at the couch (LOL) but the small stains we have gotten so far came out really easy with water and a rag.

The color of the material also is really forgiving because it is woven with a couple of different colors, I think stains would be harder to notice unless you spill red wine or something!

Lola might be even more excited about it than G and I. She can be caught sleeping on the couch at all hours of the day.

Is it worth the price?

In my opinion, yes. I know that is a pricey piece of furniture, but we have started to change our philosophy of buying things that will only save us a few hundred dollars only last us a few years; to now we try to buy things that we really love and seeing them as a long term investment that will stay in our home for hopefully years and years.

It has super comfy seats, and it perfect for our evenings at home when we are reading or watching a movie together. It utilizes the space really well in our living room and gives us more than enough seating for friends to come over and watch movies with us or play games!

In my opinion it is the perfect balance between looking nice and classy for a living room while also being super comfy for cuddling and watching movies together! <3

I am so happy with our purchase and hope it stays with us for many years to come!

  • How has the Taft fabric held up over time with the dog? Considering the same option but worried about the dog pulling at the weaved fabric and making it a disaster?

    Thanks

    • Hey Jon! I was really worried about this too with our dog but the material is surprisingly durable. The most annoying problem in regard to the fabric and a dog is that I feel like fur gets trapped in it easier and it can be hard to vacuum out. We have a lot of clay in our backyard, so we tried our dog to lay on a blanket on our couch rather than directly on the couch so that helps a lot with the couch getting dirty (and potentially with the fabric holding up better). But the fabric is performance fabric so it really is durable!

  • Hey Sara Ann, have you had any issues with feathers or sagging cushions? I'm thinking about purchasing this sofa! I'm curious how it looks now that you've had it a little while.

    • We get a feather that sticks out every once in a while but it’s not excessive. And no sagging! The cushions still look brand new

  • Hi Sara Ann, thanks for the detailed review! I just tried out this sofa in the store and, while I loved the comfort and looks, the back cushions make a light crinkly sound, which I'm guessing is the material designed to keep all those feathers where they belong. Have you noticed any sounds from your cushions and, if so, did you find they lessened over time or were particularly bothersome?

    • Hi! After I saw your comment, my husband and I ran over to our couch to see if we heard it! I guess now that you mention it, we hear it a little bit, but it has never been something that we noticed before or has bothered us in the 2 years that we have owned the couch. That being said, they may have changed the material that they use to make it more crinkly or something in the two years since we bought ours. But I am willing to bet that as the cushions get worn in, they will likely be less crinkly!

      • Haha, thanks to you both for that! :o) I'm so glad it hasn't been noticeable to you. I've seen the sofa in two locations, and in one it was crinkly, but in the other there was nothing. Bet you're right and one of those has been in use long enough to get worn in. I'm gonna order it - thank you so much for your help and speedy reply!

  • Hi! We are considering buying the Axis couch and are between the Douglas nickel and Taft cement. I love the look of the Taft, but I’m worried about two things - 1. animals and 2. Overall dinge. We currently have the Dune couch from Arhaus in vertical snow (performance ivory-ish) and it definitely cleans up very nice, but still has an almost dingey look to it overall after a few years. Do you notice any areas like that with the cement? Like around the arm rests or where people might put their feet? Then with the dogs, I know there will be no way to keep them off of it. I’m worried their claws might pull at the fabric and snag it. Have you noticed any of that? Or felting from the overused areas? Sorry for all the questions! It’s just such a big purchase and I want to get it right this time!

    • Hi! There is maybe a little bit of areas that might be slightly discolored from where we normally sit on the couch versus the areas that aren't our usual spots (haha) but I also have not given it a good clean in a LONG time. I have a little green machine like machine (https://amzn.to/3RtsO3F) and I think that if I used it, it would probably get it looking brand new! I do think the couch still looks great though and its only the slightest discoloration that my husband claims he cant see, and I probably only notice because I'm over-analyzing. I desperately need to do an update on the couch and show updated pictures!
No snags or felting on the couch though! We worked really hard to train our dog to only lay on a blanket on the couch and I do think that has really helped keep it looking good.
I totally understand your feelings though- we were so nervous to purchase the couch with it being so expensive. But we absolutely love it!
