I am FINALLY getting caught up on book posts, and realized that summer is over and done and while I have posted 16 books I had read in the summer, summer was NOT over yet! So today, let’s do the last 5 books I read this summer and then from there we can get back to our regularly scheduled monthly book round ups 🙂 Here is part 1 of summer books:
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by Jessica Guerrieri

If you love a family drama, you’ll love this one. It was genuinely stressful to read at times. You’re going to hate the main character and constantly be flabbergasted by her choices. Its a hard read but the writing is SO good and the message is deeply personal for the author. I thought this was an OUTSTANDING debut novel.

Kiss of the Basilisk by Lindsay Straube
*sigh*
Y’all know I love a romance and some ~smut~ but this was one of the spiciest books I’ve read, maybe ever. It was a bit much even for me haha

And Then There Was You by Sophie Cousens (November 18, 2025)
This one I read as an ARC, so it actually does not come out until November 18, 2025. And Then There Was You is a romance book with a minor sci-fi twist to it. I don’t want to give anything away, but it did truthfully catch me off guard early on in the book because I was not expecting it at all. It features a love triangle and kind of a second chance romance but the MMC actually was not who I was initially expecting it to be. Overall, this book was just not the straightforward romance I was expecting, it was very unique, but I couldn’t put it down!! is a romance book with a minor sci-fi twist to it. Despite the sci-fi element being a subject that I do not like in general (I’m trying very hard not to give this book away), the message of the book was very redeeming. Plus the uniqueness of the book definitely had me thinking about it for a while!

The Favorites by Layne Fargo
I wanted to like this one more. It is written in an interview style kind of like Daisy Jones and the Six but around ice dancers. I love watching figure skating and ice dancing at the Olympics and I know its a very drama filled world. The problem was that I hated all of the characters. The drama and messy relationship dynamics were definitely there though

She Didn’t See it Coming by Shari Lapena
This one is a who-dunnit kind of mystery. There are SO many red herrings in this book that it’s impossible to be 100% certain who did it before it is revealed. The only reason I rushed through it was because I had less than 24 hours to finish it before book club 😉
