All Signs Point to Malibu by Jennifer Snow came out TODAY and even though I read it back in July, I thought now would be a good time to post a review since you NOW can buy it! If you are looking for an end-of-summer easy read romance book (also under 300 pages!), this one may be up your alley.

Summary

Hailey Harris is a psychic who poses as a life coach by using her ability to further people’s career goals. After an encounter with her ex, Liam, she gets a glimpse into his future which shows him and his fiancee in an unhappy marriage and filing for divorce. Hailey begins to meddle but ends up deeper than she expected by ending up as a bridesmaid for Liam’s fiancee and planning parts of their wedding while simultaneously trying to sabotage it. Warren, Liam’s best man and Hailey’s enemy from the past has to work with Hailey to plan wedding plans and begins to catch on to her scheming.

All Signs Point to Malibu Review

This book is simple, but the psychic twist does add something fun! I did think it was a bit formulaic at times and I was personally not obsessed with the characters relationship or with the idea of them getting together. I just didn’t really feel chemistry between them. That being said, both of them were good characters in the sense that they appeared one way on the surface, but were really generous and kind underneath it, so I wanted happiness for both of them. I just didn’t understand them together (nor did I understand Hailey and Liam or Hailey and the friendship with his fiancee, Sonia).

There was one part that really made me laugh though: Hailey and Warren accidentally get high and end up in a pool floating when they should be setting up for the engagement party.

“Do you hear the palm trees singing?” Hailey says. “It’s magical.”

“What if we’re all just in a mason jar?”

“And the stars are the airholes.”

Page 168, All Signs Point to Malibu

This book had 2 of the tropes that I love the most: enemies to lovers and forced proximity. This results in a lot of banter, but for some reason, I wasn’t in love with it. And as far as “spiciness” of this romance novel, I would consider it a level 2 (out of 5) on the spice factor scale! You get like 1 good spicy scene a bit over halfway.

Overall, I give All Signs Point to Malibu, 3/5 stars. If you want a quick read that isn’t that serious, check it out.
