7 Products I Use to Reduce Waste

Life

I will be the first to admit that I am not the best at being “green”. I always forget my canvas bag when I go to the grocery store, I forget to unplug electronics, and honestly I could do a better job in conserving fuel. But I KNOW reducing waste is important and so I’m always trying to find easy swaps other than the canvas bag at the grocery store to try and reduce my footprint and use less waste. Plus, often times, reducing waste can often mean finding alternatives that are reusable– which ends up saving you ~*~money~*~!!!

1. To replace cotton balls or pads: Reusable bamboo fleece pads

When I use toner, I use these reusable fleece pads rather than cotton pads (like I used to) to apply it and then toss it in the washer with my other clothes.

2. To replace makeup remover pads: Microfiber makeup remover cloths

Similar to the fleece pads, I use these microfiber cloths that take off my eye makeup with ease 🙂 All you do, is wet it with warm water and it wipes off your makeup with no problem!

3. To replace dryer sheets: Wool dryer balls

These dryer balls not only reduce static in the dryer, but they also help to reduce drying time to save you on your energy bill. You can add a little essential oil to the balls if you want to make it smell good too.

4. To replace Ziploc bags: Reusable silicone bags

I use these reusable silicone bags instead of Ziploc bags for sandwiches and snacks that I take to work. You can just throw them in the dishwasher to clean them.

MIGHT BE TMI…but:

5. To replace pads and tampons: Menstrual cup

Diva Menstrual Cup, Model 1 Pre-Childbirth - 1 Ea by Diva Cup

The Diva Cup is a life saver. Tbh, I don’t have my cycle anymore because I have an IUD, BUT, when I did, this thing was life. No leaking, stays all day, and plus there’s no creepy chemicals entering my body like when I used tampons.

6. To replace plastic containers: Pyrex glass storage containers

I use glass pyrex containers to meal prep lunches for work. No chemicals like plastic containers and Pyrex is so durable so it’s perfect for a million uses.

7. To replace paper towels: Swedish dish cloths

These are like super thin, absorbent sponges. Since they are thin, they dry a lot quicker than sponges, so they don’t get gross and moldy like sponges can. Plus, if it starts to look gross, you can throw it in the washer with your clothes to wash it.

What do you do to be more “green” and reduce waste? Share your tips below!

I’m always trying to get my toddler more engaged w I’m always trying to get my toddler more engaged with nature, so we made a bug hotel together 🐞🐛🦋

I grabbed some bricks from @loweshomeimprovement and used glue to secure a wooden house on top. Then my toddler foraged for pinecones, straw, sticks, leaves, and put them in the holes of the bricks and inside the house. We planted plants around the house, and made a cute little sign to go on top! We also made some bee/bug watering cups out of some shells we collected during our last beach trip! My toddler loves checking on our bug hotel and filling up the bug cups to make sure they have plenty of water 😊
