Sometimes moms are the hardest to shop for, so I have come up with 16 mother’s day gift ideas: some non-material and some physical gifts that the mom in your life will LOVE. And just a quick tip on things to probably NOT get (unless specifically requested): a mug with the word mom on it, heart shaped jewelry, or jewelry in a color she normally doesn’t wear!
Pointers:
- Look through her jewelry box and/or observe what kind of jewelry she wears usually IF you are wanting to go down the route of jewelry. Does she normally wear silver or gold? Is the jewelry normally bigger and bolder? Or is it more dainty and delicate?
- Look through her Pinterest (if she has one) and her Amazon cart or Amazon wish list. Maybe she has some ideas stashed there!
By the way, if you are making her breakfast in bed (WHICH YOU SHOULD BE DOING!!!), try these super easy cinnamon rolls! It is a easy hack using canned cinnamon rolls that will make them taste like they are from scratch!
Non-Material Mother’s Day Gift Ideas:
Sometimes, she’s got it all, and finding a tangible gift is hard. So here are some ideas for non-material Mother’s Day gift ideas!
Massage or Spa Gift Card
This is honestly the best mother’s day gift idea for 95% of moms I can almost guarantee it! My husband will get me a spa gift card or schedule a spa day for me for a lot of my birthdays or Valentine’s and it is always an A+++++ gift idea!

If you can find one in your area, a massage or facial at a place that also has other spa amenities that she can take advantage of before or after her massage is ideal! If you are local to Charlotte, NC (like me!), the Ballantyne Hotel is a great one that my husband normally books. When you book a massage there, you get a day-pass to their other amenities like pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, gym, etc. so you turn a massage into a full SPA DAY!!
Take her car to get detailed
Especially if she is a mom to young kids, keeping a car spotless from milk, crumbs, toys, trash, etc, is a part-time job in itself. Getting it professionally deep cleaned would be such a nice gesture!
Hire a House Cleaner
If getting your house professionally cleaned is not something that you normally have done, hiring a house cleaner to do a deep clean of your house as a gift might be a good idea!
This one is admittedly tricky because everyone benefits from having a clean house; however, women/moms generally take on the mental/physical load of cleaning, so this would be taking something off her plate. I think this is a great idea, but pair it with something that ONLY benefits her (LIKE A MASSAGE!!!)
Hiring and Coordinating Professional Family Photos
This one is also a little tricky because sometimes people are particular about a particular style of photos that they like; however, if you have had professional photos done before, you could reach out to the same photographer. Or if she has a Pinterest board, that is also a good place to stalk to maybe find what kind of style she likes!
Even with my best intentions, we have never gotten professional family photos done! Last time we had them done was my maternity photos! So if the person you are shopping for is like me, this could be a great gift idea!
More Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
Ember Mug
My husband actually got our Ember Mug for Christmas a couple years back, but I find myself using it more lately than he does! I feel like every mom knows the struggle of coffee going cold before you can drink it, and an Ember Mug solves that problem!
Kindle
My husband actually got my a new Kindle last Mother’s Day, so can confirm that it is a GREAT gift! He got me one for Christmas YEARS ago and I use it basically every day to read. I love it. Mine finally broke after several years and so getting me a replacement was the perfect Mother’s Day gift!

Books
If the person you are shopping for is not an e-reader person, maybe some physical books would be a good idea! I have some book reviews here on my blog if you need ideas! If she has a Good Reads account, checking her “Want to Read” shelf on it is a great place to get ideas too!

Espresso Machine or Nespresso Machine
If you are shopping for someone with a regular Starbucks or coffee shop run, maybe get her an espresso machine or a Nespresso machine! Learning to make a latte at home is something I really want to learn to do myself and if you regularly get them out, this is also a practical way to save some $$$!
Custom Painting of Your Home
I think this is such a sweet, thoughtful Mother’s Day gift idea, but make sure you do it far enough in advance! This one on Etsy also can include your family members in the painting which is a cute touch. There are tons of other painters who do similar custom home paintings on Etsy, so just search around for the style you think she would like.
Digital Picture Frame or Unique Photo Frame
My husband got me this digital frame for Christmas a couple years ago and it is one of my favorite gifts. I love having photos in the house, but I take so many that I wished I had to ability to appreciate all of them more often. The one he got me links to an app, so myself and anyone else who has our code can upload photos to our frame. We also got one for my parents and my in-laws for Christmas a few years back and its been a great way to share photos of us and their grandson!
Alternatively, if you don’t think a digital photo frame would be their cup of tea, what about a really unique photo frame like this one? Etsy has a lot of cool options!
Skylight Calendar
I remember everyone talking about the Skylight Calendar last year and loving it, and because moms are always balancing everyone’s schedule I think this is one of my more practical mother’s day gift ideas, especially if you have multiple children with busy schedules. Great way to organize!
Oura Ring
I actually don’t have an Oura ring myself. Just make sure you get the sizer first!
This would be great for the person who loves fitness and wellness. It has a lot of tracking capabilities of a smart watch but is more subtle by being a ring.
Jewelry
Like I said at the beginning, jewelry is such a nice mother’s day gift idea, but make sure you know the style of the person you are shopping for. And if all else fails, ask their friends for advice! I don’t think that you should avoid jewelry alltogether if you are looking for mother’s day gift ideas, but just be mindful of silver vs gold, dainty vs chunky, etc.
Breast Milk Jewelry
If the person you are shopping for breastfeeds and/or did breastfeed and still has breast milk stored, I think this is such a cool idea! My friend had a breast milk ring made by this company called Milk Couture and it’s so pretty! I think it’s a cool idea to honor that journey.
Fingerprint Jewelry
My husband got this fingerprint bracelet made by an Etsy seller of my son’s fingerprint and I love it. It’s so dainty and cute but also so sweet that I always have his unique fingerprint with me when I wear it.

Name Ring
I got this customized name ring from Etsy before my son was born and I absolutely love it. I wear it ALL the time and always get compliments on it.
Birthstone Jewelry
Here are some on Etsy that I personally have saved and would be great if the person you are shopping for likes dainty jewelry!
