George Floyd’s unjust death (and so many other black people’s death from police brutality) has left me heartbroken and wondering what I can do to be a better ally to the black community. Protests create change, but there are also a ton of other ways to help create positive change (if protests aren’t your thing). Whether its donating, signing petitions, voting, speaking up, emailing your local government, or purchasing items from a black-owned shop, your small actions can make a huge impact.
I’ve always been a big fan of supporting small businesses, so I reached out on Twitter and tried looking for some black owned businesses that I could support (not just now, but ALWAYS), and then use my small platform to share those businesses with y’all who might be trying to do the same thing!
I’m obsessed with this wood framed mirror built by the Archer’s (the couple behind this store). They build farmhouse style furniture at affordable prices that are available for local pickup in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Their smaller items are available to ship, like this gorgeous mirror.
Kel makes a lot of gorgeous items like these earrings and this terra cotta pot. But I especially love this painted passport cover!
Nadirah makes gorgeous, affordable delicate jewelry. I’m so excited to get my stackable rings in the mail. I ordered one with my birthstone (Aquamarine) and another with my husband’s birthstone (Alexandranite) so I can stack them. It should be arriving in the mail any day now!
I found this shop through Twitter, but they sell crystals. I think this one would be such a gorgeous piece to display on some bookshelves or something.
In case you’re new here, I have an absolute obsession with candles. I almost always have one burning in the house, and I especially love vanilla scents. I’m so excited to get this candle in the mail!
How cute is this little trinket dish? This would be so cute on a nightstand or in your bathroom to hold earrings or a ring.
Vanessa makes all kinds of jewelry. But I especially love her leather earrings that are color blocked.
If you’re still in need of a fabric mask to keep others safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, consider buying one from this shop! They come in a bunch of colors and are only $8 per mask!
I’m obsessed with this mini-purse. It’s so in style right now, and I’m loving the prints available.
These gorgeous wall hangings would look amazing on anyone’s wall. I think you could make it work with just about any decor style. This artist makes lots of different hangings, but this one MIGHT be my fave.
Terri from blade + bloom makes body scrubs, aroma therapy, lotions, candles, etc. She uses natural ingredients to create her products, and the packaging is so cute, you could leave the items on display in your bathroom! This body whip is dual purpose, so you can use it on your skin, or as a hair mask for dry hair. We love a product that does both!
