Today, I am dishing out all of the Poshmark selling tips! I’ve referred quite a few friends to Poshmark and when they first start out, I tend to get asked how to be successful in selling. Poshmark is an awesome way to make some extra money easy, and get rid of clothes you don’t wear anymore!
I’ve been using Poshmark pretty casually for almost 2 years now to just sell things I no longer wear, and in that time, I have accumulated over 70,000 followers and have made over $1.8k in sales (username: @saburroughs)
{P.S. if you are new to Poshmark, you can get $10 off your first purchase with code SABURROUGHS.}
1. Order priority boxes from the post office
Did you know that you can order ~*~FREE~*~ boxes (w/ free shipping) from the United States Postal service?! No strings attached! When you make a sale, Poshmark will send you the priority mail shipping label. You can really pack your item(s) in any old box, but I don’t tend to hoard old boxes, SO I order the medium sized flat rate boxes from USPS and pack my items up in that. They are big enough to hold up to 3-4 items, so even if someone orders a bundle of items, the medium ones are normally big enough!
2. Take photos in natural light
Find a place near a window with good natural light to get the best photos. And if you can have a neutral background, that is always a plus too!
I bought a cheap white foam board off Amazon, and I use that as my background. It’s crazy how it makes a photo look 100x better!
Here’s an example:
Before:
After:
Note: After I updated my listing with the “after” photos, these boots sold within 2 hours!
3. Don’t add crazy filters
I don’t even understand why filters are an option to add to your Poshmark photos in the app! It can change the coloring of your item and then your buyer may not really know what they are getting!
4. Research comparable/similar items
Before you list your item, make sure you look it up on Poshmark so that you can see what your competition is selling it for. If everyone is selling the same pair of shoes for $20, don’t expect yours to sell at $50. Go slightly lower so that when people sort items by price, yours will show up closer to the top!
5. Share other people’s items
This doesn’t sound like it would be important but if you share over 5,000 items, it is one of the criteria so that you will become a Posh Ambassador. When that happens, you will get SO MANY FOLLOWERS. Because when people create a new Poshmark account, the app with have them automatically follow a handful of Poshmark Ambassadors, and that will boost your follower account tremendously.
Plus, if you share someone’s item, they may decide to go take a look at your closet and fall in love with something!
6. Self-share frequently
Share your own unsold items frequently so that when people search for an item, yours will show up at the top of the page!
I also self-share frequently so that my sold items will get pushed to the bottom of my closet so that it will not look as cluttered when people go to shop.
7. Style your items or model them if they don’t picture well flat
Perk if you have a picture of yourself wearing the outfit! It always helps people to imagine an item on themselves if they see it fully styled or on someone else!
Here’s an example of a sweater I wore multiple times and then decided to sell on Poshmark!
8. Add “tags” to your description
In addition to writing a thorough description of your item that you are selling, it is sometimes helpful to throw in some keywords that people may be searching for related to your item. Or if I am selling a sweater from a brand that no one has ever heard of, I will include the names of brands that remind me of the item or feel similar. That way if someone searches free people crop top, they will see my item and potentially fall in love with it, even though it isn’t the brand they were originally looking for.
Example:
“Crop top purchased at local boutique. Off-white color with lace details and v-neck. Tags: free people, anthropologie, madewell, urban outfitters
9. Offer private discounts
You can do this for customers who have made a bundle and have not submitted an offer, or do this for people who have “liked” your item. You can offer a shipping discount and offer them a discount of 10% or more in order to entice them to buy quickly.
It’s best to offer these as soon as someone “likes” your item so they will make an impulse buy while the item is still fresh in their mind!
Here’s how to do it:
10. Bundle discounts
I personally offer 15% off 2 or more items, which often entices people to buy more than one item at a time.
To offer bundle discounts, go to My Seller Tools and then My Seller Discount.
